High Commissioner of India, H.E. Mr. Sugandh Rajaram’s Official Visit to Eastern Region from 31st January to 4th February 2021

            This is High Commissioner’s first official visit to Eastern Region since he has arrived in Ghana in January 2020. Prior to this, High Commissioner has visited Western & Central Regions. 

            Political cooperation: High Commissioner would be interacting with the political and traditional authorities in the Region including the Regional Minister, the Mayor of Koforidua and the Traditional Chiefs. During these interactions, he will be exploring the possibilities to facilitate support to the interested Indian businesses for investments into the Region, in addition to briefing the authorities on the developments in India and India-Ghana bilateral relations.

            Economic cooperation: High Commissioner would be interacting with the Business Chamber in the region especially the regional chapter of AGI to seek support for strengthening India-Ghana economic relations. He would also be making visits to a few Ghanaian companies in the Region. The Region has a number of Indian investments particularly in the area of agriculture and animal husbandry. During the visit, High Commissioner would seek for further diversification of the Indian investments. High Commissioner would also be visiting the Cocoa Research Institute in Tafo and explore its greater cooperation with India. He will also be visiting the Akosombo Dam to get briefed on its various activities.

            Developmental Cooperation: High Commissioner would be visiting the Tema-Mpakadan Railway Project which is being executed by Indian infrastructure company AFCONS with Indian credit assistance of US$ 450 mn. He would also be visiting the health and educational institutions in the Region in particular the Regional Hospital and the Koforidua Technical University to explore for necessary assistance from India. He would be also interacting with the Indian scholarships alumni located in the Region.

            Other Areas of Cooperation: High Commissioner would also be interacting with the members of the Indian community in the Region. He would also be visiting the Centre for National Culture in Koforidua to know closely the cultural diversity of the Region. There will be detailed media interaction for the High Commissioner to brief the media representatives from the Region on the objective of the visit and possibilities to strengthen the relations between India and the Eastern Region in the overall context of strengthening India-Ghana relations.
